The director, William Cameron Menzies, was famous in Hollywood for visual design, and this “old dark house” flick ended up being his final film as director and production designer. • Show begins with music on the Mighty Wurlitzer and an old fashioned sing-along.

Only part of the movie is in 3-D, so when it switches over, it feels like the film is turning a corner. A frenetic debut feature from writer/director Stephen Winter, *Chocolate Babies* unleashes a world of anarchic camp and unapologetic Black queer power in one of the hidden gems of New Queer Cinema, ripe for rediscovery and ready to be introduced to new audiences. Through a campaign of fabulous surprise attacks, an underground band of radical queer HIV+ activists, addicts, and drag queens take to the streets of New York City to combat conservative politicians and government apathy towards the AIDS crisis.

For the film’s 25th anniversary, Frameline has commissioned a 4K restoration of *Chocolate Babies* in partnership with the National Film Preservation Foundation, the UCLA Film & Television Archive, and the Outfest Legacy Project. Following its festival run in the mid-1990s (playing at SXSW, the Berlinale, and Frameline21), *Chocolate Babies* struggled to secure major distribution due to its radically independent Black queer vision, but eventually found a home at Frameline Distribution who championed the film and continued to bring it to new audiences. Frameline proudly presents the world premiere of this pristine restoration in rich color and vivid detail like never before.

Chocolate Babies

Set in the summer of 1949 amidst the rubble of a defeated Germany in the aftermath of World War II, Fatherland centers on the relationship between the Nobel Prize–winning novelist Thomas Mann (Zischler) and his daughter Erika Mann (Hüller) -actress, writer, and rally driver. Returning home after sixteen years of exile in the US, Thomas Mann must face not only a divided fatherland, but also a deep fissure within his own family, one that is both politically charged and emotionally challenging. As father and daughter embark on a fictionalized road trip across a torn Germany- still visibly scarred by battle and simultaneously in denial of its evils and culpability- they travel from US-dominated Frankfurt in the west to Soviet controlled Weimar in the east. Pawlikowski and Handloegten’s screenplay uses the Mann’s own fractured relationship as the vehicle to examine a country at the crossroads of history, facing an impending moral crisis. Cinematographer Łukasz Żal’s hauntingly stark black-and-white visuals skillfully capture Zischler and Hüller’s masterfully restrained performances.

Fleeing mistakes in Atlanta, Mauro crashes on his sister’s couch in Boston. He takes to bucket drumming on the streets for a way out, but can’t stop screwing things up and drawing everyone else into his own feral shortcomings.

DOWNBEAT is a defiantly independent production, crowd-funded via Kickstarter and shot entirely on a single camcorder, with a cast made up largely of real musicians and every note of bucket drumming recorded live. It had its World Premiere at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival, and was recently featured as an Unreleased Gem on the Letterboxd Video Store.

For his directorial swan song, Alex Cox (REPO MAN, STRAIGHT TO HELL) stars in this frontier fable of American greed, playing the mysterious drifter Strindler as he scours the West for the names of dead Mexican laborers. In this loose adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s 1842 novel *Dead Souls*, Strindler – or is it Swindler? – raises eyebrows when he offers to pay a pretty penny to add to his list of names. Wandering affably from saloon to ranch, Strindler exercises the old adage that money talks – but sometimes too loudly. Pistol duels and crooked officials abound, and Spaghetti Western legend Gianni Garko (IF YOU MEET SARTANA PRAY FOR YOUR DEATH) claims a co-writer credit. But Cox’s idiosyncrasy stands out as the film veers tonally through the picaresque, dark satire and other unexpected twists. DEAD SOULS is a meditative Western that takes place at the borderlands of the American nightmare: where fortunes rest on a dirty deal, and legacies are built on blood and gold.

Four hapless bank robbers bury their loot and attempt to hide out in a deserted desert town, but very soon find out that the town is not really deserted. Norwood (Sy Richardson), Simms (Joe Strummer) and Willy (Dick Rude) are three black-suited killers-for-hire. After missing their intended target and trying to escape the wrath of their employer (Jim Jarmusch), they head for the desert and rob a bank en-route. As their car dies in a ravine, the trio bury their money and head for a lonely town to hide out till the heat blows over. The insane cast includes Courtney Love, The Pogues, Grace Jones, Dennis Hopper, Elvis Costello, Kathy Burke and Xander Berkeley.

Following the finale of his acclaimed HBO series “How To with John Wilson”, NYC documentarian John Wilson looks to the bedrock of his beloved New York City for inspiration and structure. Concrete, the world&#8217;s most widely used building material, appears as an ever-present life force, and John sets out to make the definitive documentary on the matter. After attending a workshop on how to write and sell a Hallmark movie, he decides to use the industry-approved Hallmark formula to tell this seemingly drab story and increase his movie’s appeal. But his foundation soon begins to crumble—literally and figuratively—as he struggles to balance artistic freedom with the realities of the modern film industry. So crawl out from under that rock and hit the pavement to catch this singular feature that only John Wilson could have made!

Dark Romances is a 1990 SOV anthology filmed at EZTV and conceived by director/producer Patricia Miller and (the late) Mark Shepard. It was originally shot as an episodic TV series for PLAYBOY, but was turned down due to it being deemed too violent & gory for their network. So, Mark and Patricia decided to distribute the 3-hour, 28-minute edited stories directly to video. Film Threat originally released these as a two-volume set. The set features scream queen BRINKE STEVENS in most of the stories and has a very EC / Tales from the Crypt vibe, with distincitve lighting and set design that truly sets this anthology apart from other shot-on-video films. 5 different auteurs who all worked at or frequented EZTV (PATRICIA MILLER, MARK SHEPARD, SAMUEL OLDHAM, JOHN STRYSIK, BRYAN MOORE and RODD MATSUI) created a genuine piece of analog you have to see.  Many collaborators on this film also worked on the SOV film, CARDS OF DEATH which has a similar vibe and aesthetic.

**VOL 1.**"The Black Veil"  is a Grand Guignol-inspired gothic story set in 1988 where a psychiatrist's widow visits a college friend performing in a theatre that enacts mutilations. It is one of the longer stories in this set, running just about an hour. "Listen to Midnight" is a film noir style story about a photographer and a woman with a dragonfly tattoo who mates with and then lures men to their death.

**VOL 2**"She's Bad, She's Blonde, She's Lunch" starts off with a bang, literally, and is my favorite of the bunch. A couple robs a store, leaving a trail of bloodshed, and then takes a trip to lover's lane where they meet a man, and his monster. In "Cardinal Sin," a young man is tempted by his dreams of Hustler star Elle Rio while dealing with his overbearing religious mom. "Pet Shop of Death": A submissive husband who wants to leave his wife for his neighbor (Brinke Stevens) goes to a specialty pet shop to find something to help free him from matrimony. "Last Love" is about a psychiatrist who, depressed over the loss of her husband, ends up having an affair with his ghost! Lastly, in "What Goes Around," a composer uninspired to create music after losing his wife and child finds new inspiration with a woman who is not what she seems.
