*George: The Story of George Maciunas and Fluxus* is a feature documentary as mercurial as its subject, George Maciunas, impresario of the international avant-garde art movement Fluxus (1962-78). Fascinatingly contradictory interviews with artists, including Yoko Ono, Jonas Mekas, and Nam June Paik, and inventive sound and screen design, shape this rich portrait of a visionary artist. Dedicated to cooperative methods and expanded processes, everything could be Fluxus: kits, shops, festivals, islands, weddings, food, or Flux Lofts – the first network of artist-owned lofts in SoHo, New York. The iconoclastic Maciunas and the spirit of Fluxus provoke questions still critical to artists working today.

Combining deadpan humor with an austere view of loneliness and a couple of unexpected musical numbers, Tsai Ming-Liang crafted one of the most original films of the 1990s.

Safe + Sound: Home  is a free, outdoor live music event produced by Lighthaus in partnership with Sounds of LA County and Next Fest, bringing the Los Angeles community together around music, honest conversation, and mutual aid. This concert is a gathering space where art and community care share the same stage.


The evening features a curated lineup of local artists across an intimate, community-centered program hosted at Ruben F. Salazar Park in East Los Angeles. Openers O-Slice, Aziza Love, and Alfred Nomad each bring their own voice to a night centered on belonging, and the evening is anchored by the return of Los Angeles legends J Davey. Vocalist Jack Davey and producer D'LEAU's boundary-defying blend of funk, new wave, soul, and alternative R&B helped define a generation of LA sound. J Davey are currently celebrating the 18-year anniversary of their landmark double album  The Beauty in Distortion / The Land of the Lost , newly available on vinyl.

Throughout the evening, community organizations Scribble, Hope St. Distro and Traklife will be on-site to share resources, collect donations, and invite attendees into a broader network of mutual aid and community support. Attendees will also have the opportunity to sign up for a future volunteer day with Hope St. Distro.

Safe + Sound: Home  is free to attend and open to all.

A percentage of proceeds will go toward our mutual aid partner, Hope St. Distro.

In *The** Off Hours*, Amy Seimetz commands the screen as Francine, a waitress whose liberation from her mundane existence is long overdue. In the restless world of the night shift at a highway diner, Francine&#8217;s life consists of casual encounters and transient friendships. What she wants is out of reach—or is it that she&#8217;s lost track of wanting anything at all? When a banker turned big-rig driver played by Ross Partridge becomes a regular, he sparks hope in Francine. As change begins to invade the quiet diner, Francine is reminded that it is never too late to become the person she was meant to be.

The year is 2080. *iTMRW*, the love story of Robert and his android partner, Jenny, unfolds against the backdrop of a world where advanced technology is both a source of and a “cure” for human alienation: advertisements come in the form of “pop-up thoughts,” entire cities float on islands of trash, female forms are purchased and discarded at will, and aristocrats live in a state of debauchery and despair. The piece takes its title from iTMRW, the mega-corporation that produces and sells every single product known to man. Despite societal chaos, the human spirit persists in its quest for love.

Acropolis Cinema presents *Fast*, by Rob Tregenza. A slow film about a fast subject.

Rob Tregenza has worked at the leading edge of American independent cinema since his 1988 debut *Talking to Strangers*, a film built entirely from extended single-take sequences shot in nine locations across the city of Baltimore. His subsequent films—including *Inside/Out* (1997), *Gavagai* (2016), and *The Fishing Place* (2024)—constitute a body of work defined less by narrative than by the physical weight of recorded reality. Largely self-financed and operating outside the festival-circuit economy, he remains one of the few American filmmakers whose practice has more in common with Straub-Huillet or Chantal Akerman than with anything produced in the American independent mainstream.

Tregenza’s sixth feature returns to the American South—shot on location in Lexington and Richmond, Virginia—after his Norwegian excursions in *Gavagai* and *The Fishing Place*. Says Tregenza: “For Sterling (Madison Pankey), a sort of present day Alice, the graveyard Lotus she redeems becomes a totem, a saturated phenomenon permitting her to move freely in time on a phantom road. It is a sort of Ford but never a DeLorean. A Southern woman with a fair deal of historical baggage and deep secrets, Sterling journeys back to her rural home, the Lotus takes her through the shadow of the valley into the adjoining worlds of the living and the dead.
