One of a handful of female outsider artists to earn praise from the early exponents of art brut, Aloïse Corbaz—born in modest circumstances in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1886; institutionalized as a schizophrenic in 1918; and kept under psychiatric observation until her death in 1964—is portrayed here by two of the premiere European actresses of their respective generations: Isabelle Huppert, who plays Corbaz as a ruminative, searching young woman, and Delphine Seyrig, astonishingly committed as the elder artist.

Newly restored by Cinémathèque Française and produced by Paul Vecchiali, de Kermadec’s sophomore feature is an ideal introduction to an unjustly forgotten giant of post–New Wave French cinema. In the same year of the release of *Aloïse*, de Kermadec would serve as one of the producers on Seyrig and Chantal Akerman’s *Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles*.

*George: The Story of George Maciunas and Fluxus* is a feature documentary as mercurial as its subject, George Maciunas, impresario of the international avant-garde art movement Fluxus (1962-78). Fascinatingly contradictory interviews with artists, including Yoko Ono, Jonas Mekas, and Nam June Paik, and inventive sound and screen design, shape this rich portrait of a visionary artist. Dedicated to cooperative methods and expanded processes, everything could be Fluxus: kits, shops, festivals, islands, weddings, food, or Flux Lofts – the first network of artist-owned lofts in SoHo, New York. Eventually, Popeye and Olive are brought together by Swee’ Pea (Wesley Ivan Hurt), an adorable foundling, and Popeye finally meets his dad, Poopdeck Pappy (Ray Walston). Director Robert Altman in no way tempered his trademark style for this big-budget family opus, crowding the screen with a variety of characters and allowing his cast to overlap as much dialogue as they want.
