LEARNING TO FLY follows former competitive runner turned photographer Aisha McAdams as she embarks on a journey to document the triumphs and struggles of some of the biggest names in ultra running, such as Jim Walmsley and Eszter Csillag, as they compete at the Western States Endurance Run in the Mountains of Eastern California and the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) in the French Alps.

Buster builds a boat in his basement only to run afoul of Murphy’s Law. He pulls the boat out and the house falls down. He names the boat Damfino and it sinks at sea. He sends an S.O.S. to the Coast Guard and they refuse to respond, for when they ask “who are you?” Keaton replies, “Damfino.” The Guard decides that if he doesn’t know who he is, they shouldn’t be expected to.

*Place Is the Space *is a four-hour immersive performance experience combining live jazz improvisation, theatrical storytelling and multimedia design inspired by Sun Ra’s philosophy and his film *Space Is the Place*. The work functions as both a concert and an experiential ritual where musicians, performers, visual elements and audience members collectively shape the space into a place. Metaphorically building the vehicle that Sun Ra aspired towards, expressing Afrofuturistic themes of transcendence, liberation and joy.

This cosmic jam session culminates in the audience crowning a "New Sun Ra," who leads the full audience on a pilgrimage to the Hammer Museum for one final performance, where everyone is invited to play along.

Presented in conjunction with the Hammer Museum’s current exhibition *SPACE IS THE PLACE*, which frames “space” as a conceptual framework inspired by the works and views of experimental jazz artist Sun Ra.
