The year is 2080. *iTMRW*, the love story of Robert and his android partner, Jenny, unfolds against the backdrop of a world where advanced technology is both a source of and a “cure” for human alienation: advertisements come in the form of “pop-up thoughts,” entire cities float on islands of trash, female forms are purchased and discarded at will, and aristocrats live in a state of debauchery and despair. The piece takes its title from iTMRW, the mega-corporation that produces and sells every single product known to man. Despite societal chaos, the human spirit persists in its quest for love.

The American Cinematheque has operated since 1985 as a year-round film festival.

In our new podcast, we’re asking friends and filmmakers – like Edgar Wright, Karyn Kusama, Mary Bronstein, Larry Karaszewski, and so many more – to program their own personal film festivals!

They’ll talk about their favorite films and most formative movie-going memories with our host, Grant Moninger, to create the film festival of their lives and celebrate the theatrical experience.

*Place Is the Space *is a four-hour immersive performance experience combining live jazz improvisation, theatrical storytelling and multimedia design inspired by Sun Ra’s philosophy and his film *Space Is the Place*. The work functions as both a concert and an experiential ritual where musicians, performers, visual elements and audience members collectively shape the space into a place. Metaphorically building the vehicle that Sun Ra aspired towards, expressing Afrofuturistic themes of transcendence, liberation and joy.

This cosmic jam session culminates in the audience crowning a "New Sun Ra," who leads the full audience on a pilgrimage to the Hammer Museum for one final performance, where everyone is invited to play along.

Presented in conjunction with the Hammer Museum’s current exhibition *SPACE IS THE PLACE*, which frames “space” as a conceptual framework inspired by the works and views of experimental jazz artist Sun Ra.

Spanish provocateur Luis Buñuel once again explores the perversity and hypocrisy of human nature with this biting social satire set in the French countryside of the 1930s. She tries her best to avoid getting caught up in their dysfunctional affairs, but when a local girl is murdered, she decides to use her seductive wiles to bring the killer to justice. *Diary of a Chambermaid* not only serves as a vicious satire of the idle rich — one of Buñuel’s favorite themes — but examines the creeping fascism that was about to engulf Europe.

With his second feature, a towering epic that took him years to complete, Andrei Tarkovsky waded deep into the past and emerged with a visionary masterwork. Threading together several self-contained episodes, the filmmaker traces the renowned icon painter Andrei Rublev through the harsh realities of fifteenth-century Russian life, vividly conjuring the dark and otherworldly atmosphere of the age: a primitive hot-air balloon takes to the sky, snow falls inside an unfinished church, naked pagans celebrate the midsummer solstice, a young man oversees the casting of a gigantic bell. Appearing here in Tarkovsky’s preferred 183-minute cut, as well as the version that was originally censored by Soviet authorities, Andrei Rublev is an arresting meditation on art, faith and endurance, and a powerful reflection on expressive constraints in the director’s own time.
