Quinn Amacher is a cartoonist and author of stories about motion and emotion. Made with hybrid digital/traditional media and in a variety of genres, her comix reframe the mundane and the banal into the fantastic and the absurd, disrupting our assumed inevitabilities and reconnecting the reader to the space of potential.

Alayna Cabral is a sequential artist, animator, and illustrator based in Los Angeles, CA. They have over 10 years of experience working in the animation industry as a storyboard artist, working on shows for Disney TVA, Warner Bros. and more. Along with working for studios, they self publish their own comic work and zines, and they have also created independent animated shorts that have screened world wide.

Luz Diaz, aka Bendita Garlopa, is an Argentine artist living and working in Los Angeles. Her artwork and comics are inspired entirely** by the things that confuse her the most.

Maddy Peters is a cartoonist who loves drawing unreasonable people and nightmarish situations. Her comics can be found in shops like Golden Apple and The Pop Hop, and at local comics fairs and zine fests. She is represented by 839 Gallery. In 2025, she self-published her first graphic novel, "The Baby Man," and she is currently writing and drawing a medical drama series called "Lion&#x27;s Gate." She ultimately makes comics because she finds life very funny.

Sebastian Stone is a dragon and multidisciplinary artist living in Los Angeles. His vibrant, dense imagery carries across tattooing, painting and comics. The compulsion to self-publish as a zinester and self-actuate as a furry become one hybrid beast.

“What a Wonderful World: An Audiovisual Poem,” edited by Udo Kittelmann, is a sweeping odyssey into the depths of human experience, unfolding through film and video. Marking the first major presentation of works from the Julia Stoschek Foundation in the U.S., this audiovisual poem experiments with time-based media by placing contemporary video works in dialogue with silent films and early cinema classics. For the first time, a large-scale exhibition bridges these two universes, creating an unprecedented encounter across more than a century of visual storytelling.

Bringing one of the world’s leading collections of time-based art to a city defined by moving images sparks a rare conversation across disciplines. It dissolves the boundaries between visual art and cinema, museum and theater, white cube and black box. In doing so, it traces the evolution of visual storytelling over the past century, highlighting both the universality of human concerns and the shifting perspectives that shape their representation.

It uses dream logic that can be described in terms of then-popular Freudian free association, presenting a series of tenuously related scenes that attempt to shock the viewer’s inner psyche. Its opening scene is one of the most famous in cinema history.

A lush and hypnotic experimental film in which white specks and shapes gyrate over a black background, a light-striped torso, and a spinning egg crate &#8211; It consists of animated textures, rayographs and the torso of Kiki of Montparnasse. One of the first Dadaist films and the first film made by Man Ray when he relocated to Paris.

FILM DIARY 4: GO TO THE MOUNTAINS AND PRAY

Lightstruck is elated to present two full evenings of rarely screened animated shorts from one of the most significant centers of experimental animation production and creativity in the history of the medium: Poland. Spanning the early 1960s to the late 1980s, these two programs (March 26 and April 16) will showcase an incredibly eclectic selection focusing on little-known masterworks and deep-cut revelations, all screening in recent restorations.

Poland has an extraordinary animation history marked by radical experimentation in technique and texture, investigating dark and complex themes inspired by social critique and surrealist visions alike. Spanning stop motion, cutout, cel, paint on glass, and hand-drawn approaches, these programs extend to include exceptional techniques such as Zbig Rybczyński’s hyper-complex optical printing, Piotr Dumała’s exquisite renderings on plaster slabs, and Julian Antonisz’s unhinged cameraless animation produced on ingenious, visionary devices of his own making. A morbid and uneasy humor often punctuates these works, which pulse with rich, emotional, and dramatic narratives and themes matched only by the exceptional imagination and talents of their authors.

We selected the films for these programs with an emphasis on shorts not generally available on home media, and spanning a particularly diverse array of styles, aesthetics, techniques, and sensibilities. Widely celebrated artists like Rybczyński, Antonisz, Ryszard Czekała, and Jerzy Kucia will be represented by lesser known (but magnificent) offerings, while deeply memorable obscurities from Jacek Kasprzycki, Zofia Oraczewska, Ryszard Antoniszczak, and Ewa Bibańska will further illuminate Poland’s incredible spectrum of animation genius.

*My Name is Oona* was Nelson’s final breakthrough on the American avant-garde film scene. The sound consists of Nelson’s daughter, Oona, repeating the names of the days of the week and of her saying “my name is Oona.” The latter is edited into an expressive rhythmical structure that accompanies the visual structure of the film that plunges into the experience of a child where both bliss and fear reign. *Fog Pumas* is the second film that Gunvor Nelson and Dorothy Wiley shot together. It received one of the grand prizes at the Knokke Experimental Film Festival, EXPRMTL, in 1967-68. The film is a hilarious, liberating exploration of absurd imagery and situations in which Nelson and Wiley also make fun of some classical avant-garde film techniques. *Moons Pool* marks a new path in Gunvor Nelson’s filmmaking in which she develops her interest in creating a weave of movements and superimpositions. The film that is mostly shot underwater, in a pool, begins with footage of water and a close-up of Nelson from which we move to her body immersed in water in a bathtub. Another transition occurs to a pool with male and female naked bodies swimming underwater. The latter part of the film is almost totally liberated from speech, and has a dreamlike, complex soundtrack consisting of sounds of waves, voices, water and music woven together into a seamless web of sounds.—*Professor John Sundholm, Stockholm University*

Acropolis Cinema screens *Falling Leaves* (Otar Iosseliani, 1968), in a new 4K restoration presented by Alexandre Koberidze.

Saturdays's event will feature an introduction and post-screening Q&A with *Dry Leaf* director Alexandre Koberidze and composer Giorgi Koberidze.

First screened at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival, *Falling Leaves* tells the story of Nico, a technician starting out at a state-run wine collective. While his friend Otar adapts seamlessly, Nico refuses to pretend that bad wine can be bottled. He also falls for Otar’s girl. Iosseliani offers up poignant observations about the clash of generations, factory life, and romance in this witty and moral tale of an individual’s resistance to oppression.

Otar Iosseliani is one of Georgia’s most admired filmmakers who died two months before his 90th birthday in December 2023. His unconventional storytelling, anarchic style and underlying anti-authoritarianism did not suit the Soviet authorities and by 1982 Iosseliani had moved to Paris. His self-described “abstract comedies” explore human absurdity, observing behaviour rather than following a cohesive narrative. He didn’t like "intrusive" close-ups and his unique shooting style with complex movement of people, animals and objects led Ronald Bergan, writing in the Guardian, to describe him as the “true heir to Renoir, Tati and Buñuel.” (Institut français du Royaume-Uni)

### Vick & Tarstar’s Scarecrow Factory (2025)

Vick and Tarstar are shooting their latest trash-horror epic, *Scarecrowed*, with a cast and crew of punks, drug addicts, fetish models, and dumpster divers. As extra-hairy relationship drama, homelessness, vanishing funds, and quitting collaborators threaten to derail the production, the duo remains committed to telling their story.

Set within a deranged consumer fantasy, *Scarecrow Factory* asks a simple question: with the right bucket, can you too buy your own hair-cutting scarecrow made by the animatronic Goo Guys? A Blood Sick mumblegore nightmare by Brewce Longo and Kasper Meltedhair, the film features Erin Caywood, Nicole Elyse, Janice.Click, and SOV legends Hugh Gallagher and Tina Krause.

Charles Pinion and Brewce Longo are currently in preproduction on an upcoming collaborative feature, *Thousand Eyes*. Directed by Pinion and produced by Longo, the film will shoot in Philadelphia in May 2026 and will feature a mix of regular Blood Sick players alongside classic SOV figures.
