Nevada, the “leave it” state: a gathering ground for misfits, burnouts, empty bottles and spare atom bombs. It’s home to a host of interesting strangers: Roslyn; a beautiful but naive woman, reeling from a shotgun divorce, who has never stepped foot out of Reno, and Guido and Gay; a pair of erstwhile cowboys with a half-finished house in the sticks and bittersweet memories of a west that’s no longer wild. Roslyn moves out to the country and tentatively begins to build a home with Gay, but is soon on the move again when Guido returns and takes them on a road trip to round up wild mustangs, picking up a rodeo-rocked bull rider along the way to serve as an extra pair of hands. Arriving in the desert, tensions increase when Roslyn learns of the horses’ grisly fate and the men around her are forced to confront their anachronistic lifestyles and their individual failures.

At the centre of the story are the decades-long friendships that built C.O.F.F.I.N, from founding members Ben Portnoy and Abijah Rado, who began performing together at age 12, to the later additions of Aaron Moss and Steven ‘Kosty’ Kostogiannis. Together, the film explores their deep personal bonds and shared history that shaped the band long before the music itself.

Simple, delicate, and jazzy, the first of the “Moral Tales” shows the stirrings of what would become the Rohmer style: unfussy naturalistic shooting, ironic first-person voice-over, and the image of the “unknowable” woman. A law student (played by producer and future director Barbet Schroeder) with a roving eye and a large appetite stuffs himself full of sugar cookies and pastries daily in order to garner the attentions of the pretty brunette who works in a quaint Paris bakery. But is he truly interested, or is she just a sweet diversion?

Bertrand bides his time in a casually hostile and envious friendship with college chum Guillaume. But when ladies’ man Guillaume seems to be making a play for the spirited, independent Suzanne, Bertrand watches bitterly with disapproval and jealousy. With its ragged black-and-white 16 mm photography and strong sense of 1960s Paris, Rohmer’s second “Moral Tale” is a wonderfully evocative portrait of youthful naiveté and the complicated bonds of friendship and romance.

Kuzco&#8217;s advisor, Yzma, tries to poison Kuzco and accidentally turns him into a llama, who accidentally ends up in Pacha&#8217;s village. Pacha offers to help Kuzco if he doesn&#8217;t destroy his house, and so they form an unlikely partnership. Fast-paced fluffy fun for all!

*Remaining Native* is a coming-of-age documentary told from the perspective of Kutoven (Ku) Stevens, a 17-year-old Native American runner, struggling to navigate his dream of becoming a collegiate athlete as the memory of his great-grandfather&#8217;s escape from an Indian boarding school begins to connect past, present, and future.

Ku Stevens (17) is the solo runner at his high school with no coach. Living on the Yerington Paiute reservation in Northwest Nevada he needs more to be seen by his dream school, the University of Oregon. 

As Ku trains, unreconciled emotions unearth the memory of his great-grandfather, Frank Quinn. At 8 years old, Frank ran 50 miles across the desert to escape an Indian boarding school. Frank’s story becomes interwoven with Ku’s journey to run a collegiate qualifying time.

Will Ku outrun his history or will he learn to run in parallel with it to achieve his dreams?

In 1910s California, wayward son Cal (James Dean) struggles to prove his worth to his deeply religious father Adam (Raymond Massey) and live up to the example of his better-loved brother Aron (Richard Davalos). But Cal’s good intentions are complicated by a shocking secret about his supposedly deceased mother, their farm’s economic decline, and the looming shadow of World War I. Dean’s electrifying performance here is still hailed as one of the greatest in film history — this was the last movie of his released before his tragic death at 24, and it earned him a posthumous Oscar nomination for Best Actor.
