Premiering on June 27, 1966, on ABC-TV, *Dark Shadows *(1966–71) represented an outré experiment in daytime television that became an unexpected breakout hit and evergreen cult classic. Created by horror-maestro Dan Curtis (*The Night Stalker*, *Trilogy of Terror*), the innovative soap opera, which initially struggled in the ratings, expanded greatly in popularity in its second year with the addition of a 175-year-old charismatic vampire character named Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid). As the eerily atmospheric series evolved to fuse gothic supernatural elements and romance into complex storylines, it developed a passionate youth following and became a pop culture phenomenon. In the process, the videotaped series earned the distinction of being the first soap to spawn a theatrical motion picture spin-off, *House of Dark Shadows* (1970), and several additional feature films and reboots. The beloved original series ran for over 1,200 episodes before its abrupt cancellation in 1971. In the ensuing decades, the aura surrounding* Dark Shadows *has only intensified, with the influential program enjoying nearly constant reruns in syndication, luring an influx of new viewers into the mysterious, shadow-drenched world of the wealthy Collins family of fictional Collinsport, Maine. 

Join us for a celebration of* Dark Shadows*, exactly 60 years to the day of its premiere, including the debut episode and rare archival footage. They tramp the urban wasteland at night, from arcade to diner to another sad club scene, and soon sparks fly between the boys, too. The material originated as a one-woman show in 1973, written and performed by Joan Hotchkis, a versatile talent celebrated for her roles on television series including *The Odd Couple *and *The Life and Times of Eddie Roberts*. Karen Arthur, a first-time filmmaker, saw Hotchkis on stage and convinced the actor to adapt the screenplay and star in the film. Independently produced and financed, *Legacy*, like its peers *Wanda* (1970) and *A **Woman Under the Influence *(1974), confounds 1970s Hollywood’s expectations with the introduction of a new kind of cinematic woman. Bissie stuns audiences with her honesty that is confrontational, yet heartfelt and a vulnerability that is never sentimental and always surprising.

*Legacy* features an exceptional crew at the start of what would become a set of accomplished careers. This masterwork by Krzysztof Kieślowski is one of the twentieth century’s greatest achievements in visual storytelling. Originally made for Polish television, DEKALOG focuses on the residents of a housing complex in late-Communist Poland, whose lives become subtly intertwined as they face emotional dilemmas that are at once deeply personal and universally human. Its ten hour-long films, drawing from the Ten Commandments for thematic inspiration and an overarching structure, grapple deftly with complex moral and existential questions concerning life, death, love, hate, truth and the passage of time. Shot by nine different cinematographers, with stirring music by Zbigniew Preisner and compelling performances from established and unknown actors alike, DEKALOG arrestingly explores the unknowable forces that shape our lives.

With rulings on major issues expected by the start of summer 2026, the United States Supreme Court is once again at the center of key legal and policy debates. An all-star panel of legal scholars analyzes the meaning and implications of the latest Supreme Court cases and rulings on issues including: birthright citizenship, gun rights, tariffs, voting rights, election and campaign finance rules, the president’s power to fire agency commissioners and members of the Federal Reserve, the treatment of transgender athletes, and much more. The panelists will also consider the implications of these rulings on the role of the courts in response to the Trump Administration’s broad assertions of executive power.

Lightstruck presents *Jordan Belson: Knowledge Beyond Words pgm II.*

On June 25 and July 9, Lightstruck is honored to present two evenings devoted to one of cinema's unparalleled visionaries – Jordan Belson – an artist and filmmaker whose singular body of work has justifiably been the subject of devoted contemplation and ecstatic appreciation for over six decades. Belson's films defy concrete description, which is part of their deep and personal appeal, hinting as they do at "a knowledge that is beyond words", as Belson once told writer and curator Raymond Foye (to whom we are greatly indebted for being able to present these programs). While his earliest films embodied more familiar aspects of mid-century non-objective visual art, the early 1960s marked a radical shift into intensely mystical and elusive imagery – achieved largely through Belson's own remarkable photographic techniques – to give miraculous form to the innermost regions of imagination and consciousness.

Our second program devoted to the films of Jordan Belson spans his career up to the early 1970s, with a selection of ever-evolving and -expanding techniques of singularly mystical expression, most films screening on recently struck 16mm prints, courtesy of the Belson estate and Raymond Foye. Inspired by relationships to the worlds of Non-Objective art, jazz, meditation, and encounters with West Coast artist friends such as Harry Smith and James Whitney, Belson was consistently exploring and discovering new methods and mediums of visualization that engage with a level of consciousness which feels thrilling and otherworldly, yet somehow deeply familiar. In the late 1950s, through his planetarium “Vortex Concerts” in collaboration with sound artist Henry Jacobs, Belson amplified his vision with complex multimedia light shows which helped define the concept of “expanded cinema” and greatly influenced his filmmaking techniques. In the late 1960s, he began exploring the medium of video, synthesizing multilayered contemplations in such films as Cosmos. In 1974, Belson would team up with video artist, musician, and polymediast, Stephen Beck, to produce one of the ultimate visionary fusions of film and video in Cycles, which will conclude the evening in a glorious 16mm print.

The films screening in this program are: Bop Scotch (1952), Mandala (1952), Séance (1959), Re-Entry (1964), Momentum (1968), Cosmos (1969), Light (1973), Union (1975, by Stephen Beck), and Cycles (1974, by Jordan Belson & Stephen Beck).

*The Misconceived* is a tragicomedy about millennials turning forty, which follows a struggling yet entitled white American male found throughout the annals of indie film who apprehends his likely cultural irrelevance during the Biden era.

The film utilizes experimental 3D-rendered processes entirely within a video game engine, utilizing motion capture, facial recognition, voice performance, and a vast library of stock media. *The Misconceived* takes full advantage of the new ability to shoot in virtual worlds and a marketplace of 3D architectural and character models to create an uncanny mirror to contemporary society (notably, not using generative AI).

In many ways, the movie is an argument for and against its right to exist.

Korean director Na Hong-jin delivers the ultimate supernatural horror experience in *The Wailing*, where sinister mystery meets surreal diabolism. A stranger arrives in a little village and soon after a mysterious sickness starts spreading. A policeman is drawn into the incident and is forced to solve the mystery in order to save his daughter.
